Bidding on Brooks by Katy Regnery – Jenn’s Review

bidding on brooks

Katy Regnery is my go-to author for beautiful, unique stories that stay with you long after you’ve finished.

Bidding on Brooks is the first of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Preston. He’s been down that road before and still has the scars to prove it. And maybe Cameron, because he’s super hot, but too hot-headed to be decent boyfriend material…)

Railroaded into a bachelor auction by his sister, Jessica, Brooks Winslow asks his friend, Skye Sorenson, to bid on him to avoid the possibility of any romantic entanglements. Fiercely competitive and protective of those he cares for, Brooks was profoundly affected by the loss of his father at an early age. A witness to his mother’s terrible loneliness and his siblings’ grief, the ex-Olympian has never allowed himself to fall in love.

Skye Sorenson, the plucky mechanic at Sorenson Marina, where Brooks moors his three sailboats, is a credible sailor in her own right…and has quietly lusted after Brooks for years. But her longstanding friendship with Brooks has always made romance seem impossible.

When Skye agrees to bid on Brooks, the two cast off for a weeklong ocean adventure on Brooks’ sailboat, The Zephyr, where the last thing Skye expects to lose is her heart.

Return to the world created in the English Brothers books with this fresh foursome of scorching hot Winslow Brothers!

“I didn’t want to fall in love with you, but I was already a lost cause. I didn’t want you to fall in love with me. But, you did. We did.”

You can be assured that when you open a Katy Regnery book, you are going to get stunning imagery, strong,  developed characters, and a writing style that is as unique as it is gorgeous. Getting lost in one of Katy’s books is one of my favorite pastimes. Bidding On Brooks is just the latest of my Katy Favorites.

In Bidding On Brooks, we meet Brooks Winslow and Skye Sorenson, friends with zero romantic entanglements. Brooks finds himself in a bind… to please his sister, he has agreed to auction himself off for a “romantic sail down the Atlantic coast.” Problem is, Brooks doesn’t want to spend a week with a woman he doesn’t know, or worse, one who wants more from him than he’s willing to give. What better way to rectify this, then to ask his friend Skye, the plain boat mechanic, to bid on him. What could possibly go wrong?

Skye has always harbored a crush on Brooks. Knowing their social status would never allow for them to be more than just friends, she buried it…until the prospect of spending a week alone with Brooks came along.  Would she be able to hide her feelings, or would she take advantage of their alone time.

This was a charming friends to lovers story that definitely took the long route to get there. Both Brooks and Skye were dealing with their own insecurities and complications, they had a very difficult time giving themselves over to each other. While I did LOVE this book and all the characteristics that Skye and Books possessed, I felt that there was too much time processing their feelings, and not enough acting on them. There seemed to be more inner monologue than spoken dialogue between Skye and Brooks. There were countless times I wanted to smack both of them in side of the head. Brooks, for being so stubborn he made me scream a few times, and Skye for being so blind I wanted to shake her. In the end, I trusted in Katy to give us the story and resolution that Brooks and Skye deserved, and I knew she would not let us down. Bidding On Brooks is definitely a slow build love story, and while at times, I wanted to give Brooks a piece of my mind, watching their story unfold was an absolute joy.
