Bounty by Kristen Ashley – Jenn’s Review

Silly question….

5 stars

Justice Lonesome has enjoyed a life of bounty.

Even so, she’s inherited the curse of the Lonesome. A poet’s soul. Which means she’s still searching for something. Searching for peace. Searching for the less…that’s more.

And when the foundation of her life is pulled out from under her, grieving, she goes to the mountains to find her oasis. She hits Carnal, Colorado and decides to stay.

Deke Hightower lost everything at the age of two. He lost it again at fifteen. His life has not been about bounty. It’s been about learning to live with less, because there’s no way to get more.

Deke’s also watched all his friends go down to the women who gave them what they needed. He wants that for himself. But he knows that search isn’t going to be easy because he’s a rider. His home is the road. That’s the only place he can breathe. And the woman who takes her place at his side has to do it sitting on the back of his bike.

When Deke meets Justice, he knows she’s not that woman. She’s cute. She’s sweet. And she’s into him, but she’s got it all and Deke knows he won’t fit into that. So he holds her at arm’s length. Establishes boundaries. And Justice will take it because she wants Deke any way he’ll let her have him.

But when Justice finds herself a pawn in a dangerous game, Deke makes a decision.

When he does, he has no idea he’s just opened himself up to bounty.

Every time I sit down to write a review for a new KA book, I never know where to start. Did I love it? Of course! Did I block out the rest of the world and just devour every, single, word? Yes! Did I laugh? Did I cry? Did I swoon? Did I scream? Yes, Yes, Yes, and YES!!

More from our favorite people in Carnal, Colorado? Oh heck yes! Each time I am blessed with a KA ARC, I am torn between diving in and wanting to wait. Even though I am a regular KA reader, there is nothing like that first time you experience one of her stories. Nothing compares. This time, I didn’t wait, I jumped in the minute I could and I didn’t regret a single second.

Justice Lonesome is famous. Super famous. She almost has it all; a life full of bounty. But what’s missing is the love of a good man. Someone who challenges her and keeps her on her toes. Someone to wake up next to and share in all the world has to offer.  When she spots that someone from across a bar, she is equal parts elated and saddened, knowing what she wants is never to be.

“And that was when I saw him…
The only man at the bar.
The only man in the universe.
The only man breathing.
The only man for me.”

When he does the unthinkable, and comes to her, the connection is instant.  But as quickly as they hit it off, he’s gone again…and it’s seven long years before they meet again.

Talk about a slow burn love story…. Deke and Justice’s relationship redefines slow burn. What starts out as a employer/employee relationship, slowly builds into  friendship. I loved watching them navigate their new relationship. You knew they wanted more, but just weren’t going there. Then, the unthinkable happens and their relationship is catapulted into so much more than they ever thought possible. This was such a pivotal moment in the story and I loved how it drove Justice and Deke straight towards each other, without even looking back. There was no more questioning their relationship and what they built off of that was just beautiful.

We get to see all of our favorite Carnal residents, but Krystal was a definite stand out. Krystal was always an integral part of each book, but the growth we see in her throughout Bounty really moved me.  She was always this hard-nosed, take no-nonsense woman, but we see such a deeper side to her. She brought so much to each scene she was in.

KA books are not without their drama, and Bounty was no different. The action comes at you from all sides, but at the heart of it, this is a love story seven years in the making.  Every word is meant to be cherished. Lose yourself in Justice and Deke…you’ll be glad you did.
