Cooper by Harper Sloan — Jenn’s Review

Harper Sloan is a favorite author and the Corps Security Series is fantastic!

Do you take me seriously? Because I don’t. I use my jokes and easygoing personality to hide the pain I’ve felt since he took his last breath. I’m adrift without my partner in crime, my best friend…my brother. I can taste the vengeance just within my grasp.

Until she barges into my life. Promising me happiness and a peace I’ve been craving for years. She is the sun to my darkness, the happy to my despair.

But she holds secrets. Just like I do. She holds hers close, where I just pray mine don’t rock the walls we’re trying to build.

Now I’m stuck at a crossroads between my desire for revenge and my craving for her and the life we could have together—and I have no idea which road I should travel.

All I know with crystal clear certainty is that the past has the power to destroy it all.

Having been a fan of the Corps Security series from its inception, I was crazy excited for COOPER! The ending of Beck was just mind numbingly sad. I rarely cry at the stories in books, but it was impossible NOT to be moved. Beck’s ending was the perfect set up to the events in COOPER, and I was anxiously counting down the days until its release! I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of the book and couldn’t wait to dive into it! I was NOT disappointed!!!

Asher Cooper is not dealing with the death of his brother very well. He spends most nights at the bottom of a bottle and in random women. Broken doesn’t even begin to cover it. Chelcie Avery is carrying around a pretty big secret she has yet to share with Asher. While they two of them have formed a tentative friendship, she is fairly certain that will be taken from her when she finally gathers to courage to tell him. Asher doesn’t know if he can be saved, or if Chelcie even wants the job, but there is no way either of them can deny the unbelievable chemistry and raw attraction to each other.

“And why is that, Chelcie? Is it because you wish it was you? Because let me tell you, I wish it was you. Every. Single. Time.”

Together, Asher and Chelcie become THAT person for each other and it was beautiful to witness. As they begin to open up to each other and fall in love, you feel it along with them. There are so many obstacles stacked against them, but they power through. The reward on the other side is just that incredible.

“You’re my everything, Sunshine. You’ve made me whole again.”

There are so many twists, turns and amazing moments in this book that I want to give NOTHING away, but know that, this book grips you from the prologue. Think your heart couldn’t be more broken after finishing Beck? Think again! This book has the right amount of heat and swoon-worthy moments (Asher says some pretty spectacular things.) There is a perfect balance of humor and sadness. Harper Sloan has this brilliant way of pulling you straight into the story. There is no slow build up. It basically smacks you in the face. You are thrown straight into the fire and it’s breathtaking. You are a part of the Corps Security Family, and there is no place else to be.
