Effortless by Lynn Montagano — Becky’s Review

I read the two previous books in the series and I was given the ARC

Everything in Lia Meyers’ life seems perfect. She’s made the move ‘across the pond’ to start a new life with the man of her dreams and is impressing her new bosses as the executive producer of a popular news magazine program.

Alastair Holden, the enigmatic Englishman who has Lia’s heart, puts her above all else, even at the expense of his billion-dollar worldwide media empire. Lia couldn’t be luckier, right?

But her lavish world of hearts and flowers soon turns upside down. Living under the white hot spotlight of the Holden family empire proves to be more complicated than she anticipated. She doesn’t know who to trust and questions the motives of her closest friends.

To make matters worse, Alastair begins to revert back to his closed off ways. When a life changing event thrusts him into chaos, Lia must decide if a diamond really is forever or if she should learn to cut her losses.

Effortless is the third installment in Lynn Montagano’s Breathless series and Lia and Alastair face a new threat of obstacles to their relationship and their happily ever after. Lia has decided to pack up and move to Scotland to be with Alastair but things are never easy as they seem. In Scotland, Lia faces the intrusive paparazzi, who follow her around like vultures and hound her for information about her engagement, her wedding and Alastair. Her BFF Steph also starts to act strangely and becomes distant, which causes more stress for Lia. She also has to deal with two of Alastair’s crazy ex-girlfriends, who can’t get over the fact that he’s marrying Lia. Not to mention, Alastair is still hiding a part of himself from Lia and this leaves her wondering if they’re really meant to be together.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading the Breathless series, and by the time I got to the third book, those echoes of previous stories didn’t really bother me as much as they did before. Lia and Alastair are one of my favorite book couples and there were moments, while reading, that I was seriously worried about the fate of their relationship. Like every alpha billionaire, Alastair thinks that he can protect Lia from his past but like every alpha billionaire, he underestimates her and that lack of faith puts their relationship in jeopardy. One thing that I really liked about this installment is that Lia faces problems from all kinds of sources – it’s not just Alastair and his past. Her best friend is being less than BFF-worthy and her new job, and its host, also cause chaos in her life.
I’m hesitant to say that this is the last book in the series because I feel like Lynn Montagano left some things unresolved. I can easily imagine another book where these issues get resolved but I’m not the author. Regardless, I loved the conclusion of this book, which further cemented Alastair Holden in my heart and made him one of my permanent book boyfriends. If you haven’t read this series yet, I strongly recommend that you one-click and spend a day or two wrapped up in Lia and Alastair’s love affair.
