WHY I READ IT
The cover pulled me in enough to read the blurb – knew I had to try to get the ARC!!!
WHAT I RATED IT
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
First, he saved me.
I lived because he was a hero.
And then he was gone.
Uprooted by the fire that destroyed our home, my family moved away and I never saw David Andrews again.
Then, he found me.
Eighteen years later, he rescued me again – in much simpler terms, of course. By loving me, by giving me the fairy tale I’d always hoped for, he provided me with the perfect life.
Now, he needs to be saved.
It’s my turn to be strong, to be brave, to be valiant.
When flames threaten to turn us to ashes, it’s up to me to pull us From the Wreckage.
When Grace is 6 years old, her 10 year old neighbor, David, rescues her from a fire. After the fire, Grace’s family moves away. Even though they were very young and don’t see each other after that, a connection was formed that night. As the years go by, every turn they make, they seem to always be looking for each other. And then 18 years later, when they finally do run into each other, the connection is still very much alive.
“It has been eighteen years after all, but there are some things you just don’t forget. For me, it’s two things – her hair and her laughter. Both bright streaks of light in a mostly dark world.”
Ever since rescuing Grace, David knew what he wanted to be and 9/11 sealed the deal. How appropriate that the first time they see each other is a bar called Smoke! When Grace sees him again, he is already a fireman. He’s single and has never been in a real relationship – just going through the motions, and women, along the way. That is until he sees Grace again.
Grace hasn’t had many boyfriends and her last boyfriend always put her down. Then David comes along and gives her what she been looking for and needs. Her attraction for David is so strong and his feelings are mutual. Everything is moving along perfectly until, one day, Grace is forced to face her greatest fear. Now it’s her turn to be there for David. And she refuses to leave his side.
This is a beautiful love story and you will love David and Grace. I am very big into the HEA so when that was challenged, I was in tears! But Melissa kept the story true to life and from the wreckage their love was formed again.
Melissa’s Collins’ books have been on my TBR forever. When I first read the blurb for From the Wreckage, I knew I was going to read this one and had a feeling I would love it! After reading this I can tell you I am a fan of Melissa’s and look forward to reading the rest of her books.
