WHY I READ IT
The blurb included horsepower, enemies to lovers and angst.
WHAT I RATED IT
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Quinn has spent her whole life working in her dad’s garage, leaving her more comfortable with a carburetor than a curling iron. Her world is turned upside down when her beloved garage is bought by none other than world famous, sexy as sin, custom car builder, Tazen Watts. He’s the one man she can’t stand…even though he makes her hotter than a high performance engine in top gear.
Tazen has no use for Quinn, at least not professionally, and he’s making sure she knows it. But there’s a spark between them that she’s finding hard to ignore. She’s determined to prove her talent is as impressive as her sassy mouth. When she finds out Tazen is hiding a secret that could bring down his career and everyone involved in it, she wonders: is falling for him is going to be work the risk?
I love a good angst filled drama. I love enemies to lovers. I love muscle cars and adrenaline fueled rides. This book had all that PLUS an in-charge alpha! This had all the best ingredients to make one great read. That being said, the book made me nervous. I was afraid early on in the book that there were some instances where I was not going to like the heroine; she seemed weak in some ways to me. But as the story progressed, I realized she was not weak, she was very strong.
Quinn had been struggling with basically all areas of her life and had a lot of responsibilities, including the running of the garage her father owns, falling on to her shoulders. Tazen is trying to buy the garage out from her family. Quinn is not ready to let it go, and is very tenacious in her attempts to keep the garage.
Tazen builds custom cars that are high in horsepower and all one of a kind builds. The cars are all sexy pieces of art both under the hood and in exterior body that any gearhead would appreciate. Tazen did not make the best first impression on me, but just as with Quinn, his Alpha-holeness is not who he truly is (although he’s still a total Alpha.) As the story progresses, I realized that Tazen is a great guy, and although his intentions weren’t always pure, the connection and love between Tazen and Quinn is electric. Tazen definitely grew on me as the story progressed.
I loved the banter between Quinn and Tazen. Neither one of them acted like a doormat; always willing to return the sass and stand their ground, almost taking it too far a few times. But they both were also willing to expose that soft spot to the other, relying on the other one when they need it. Once they let their walls down, the way they work with each other and feed off each other shows this is truly that once in a lifetime kind of love.
