Jacque’s Favorite Books of 2014

faves3pm

So many books, so little time!  Like Jenn, I also read about 300 books this year.   Since we started blogging together, my total number of reads has sadly decreased but we are having a blast blogging about the books we love!  Out of all of the books that I’ve read, I’ve listed my top 15 plus Honorable Mentions.  There are 3 of those books that I just cannot rank 1, 2, or 3 so they are all tied for 1st place.  For me, most of my winner’s this year were from stories that emotionally pulled on my heart in some way.

1.  ARCHER’S VOICE by Mia Sheridan

ARCHER'S VOICE

Why I read it:

Well, it’s Archer…and saw great reviews on it.

What I rated it:

off the charts pm2

My thoughts:

OK, there are only 3 words I can think of:  Archer + Hale + *sigh* (ok, so that’s doesn’t count)!  Seriously who has not fallen in love with Archer?

This is one of my top go-to, feel good, re-reads…it’s that cold, lazy, Saturday afternoon, sitting by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate kind of book.  If you haven’t read it, you MUST!  You will get what I’m talking about!  You too will want to snuggle up with Archer Hale!!!  ♥♥♥

 1.  UGLY LOVE by Colleen Hoover

ugly love

Why I read it:

Because it’s Colleen Hoover

What I rated it:

off the charts pm2

 My thoughts:

Being a HUGE fan of HOPELESS (one of my all time faves) and Maybe Someday, there was no doubt that I would read UGLY Love.  I just didn’t realize that once books was dowloaded, it would not be put down until I finished it.  Colleen Hoover has put us on another emotional rollercoaster ride that you cannot get off until it’s over.  You will fall in love with the characters in this story and will want their happily ever after!!  No question that you should read this one.

Congratuations and best of luck to Colleen Hoover and Nick Bateman on the making of the movie UGLY LOVE.  I cannot wait!

1.  BRIGHT SIDE by Kim Holden

BRIGHT SIDE

Why I read it:

It was actually one of the winners of GOR’s top reads of 2014 chosen by our Facebook followers.  I had heard so many good things about it and had so many personal recommendations that I had to read it.  It was quickly placed in my top 3.

What I rated it:

off the charts pm2

My thoughts:

BRIGHT SIDE was one of the last books that I read in 2014 and I’m so glad that I got to it.  This is a story of love and friendship and looking on the brighter side of life.  When I was done this book (at 3:00 in the morning and after bawling my eyes out for half an hour), I wanted to wake up my boys and husband and hug them!  And they wouldn’t have thought me crazy because they know I get emotionally involved in my books.  Life can get crazy for all of us but this book reminds us all to put things in perspective!  I hope that Kim Holden gives us more of Kellar and Gus.  They both deserve a happy ending!  Please check out my review on the blog.

4.  STEPBROTHER DEAREST by Penelope Ward

stepbrother dearest

Why I read it:

Even though I’m a fan of Penelope Ward and have read many of her books, the cover hooked me!

What I rated it:

5plus rating4

My thoughts:

Oh my!  I absolutely loved Stepbrother Dearest.  I knew as soon as I read it, it was going to be one of my favorites of 2014.  This was another one that I couldn’t put down until I finished it.  And it was definitely a tear jerker.  Elec and all his yummy tattooed glory was such a jerk to Greta.  I was so mad at him at first.  But OMG what really did me in was what I like to call the “story within the story”.  It’s when we learn Elec’s true feelings and is definitely my favorite part of the book.  This is the cue for “bring on the tissues”.  Read the book, you will not regret it!

5.  STAY by B.a. Wolfe

stay

Why I read it:

STAY is the second book of the series.  My co-blogger, Jenn recommended AWAY and after B.a. Wolfe was highlighted in our Monday Morning Spotlight (http://wp.me/p4sNYd-NF), I just had to read it!

What I rated it:

5plus rating4

My thoughts:

I was so upset after I read AWAY that I had to immediately read STAY…and so glad I did!  Oh, I needed some closure!  I love it when an author writes a story and I don’t know how I could possibly recover from it.  But B.a. Wolfe has done that with STAY (thank goodness!!).  It was just as emotional as AWAY but in a different way.  Give them both a chance…they are worth the read!

6.  SAVING FOREVER by Jasinda Wilder

Saving Forever

Why I read it:

To complete the Ever series.

What I rated it:

5plus rating4

My thoughts:

Saving Forever is the 3rd book of the Ever Series.  This series is  very emotional so come equipped with plenty of tissues.  I read the first 2 books back to back and when I moved on to read the 3rd book, it was not released yet.  I was so mad and truthfully didn’t know if I would be able to read the last book of the series since I was so emotionally destroyed in the first 2 books.  It literally took me a month to talk myself into it.  But I am so glad I did finally read it.  It is definitely needed for the reader to get closure and I found myself not hating one of the characters that I thought I would never forgive!  Give the series a chance.  The first book (Forever and After) is usually always free (http://amzn.to/1BbQMDD).

7.  RUSH TOO FAR by Abbi Glines

rush too far

Why I read it:

I am a serious fan of the Rosemary Beach series and Rush is my favorite.

What I rated it:

5plus rating4

My thoughts:

RUSH TOO FAR is Rush’s POV of FALLEN TOO FAR.  OK, I thought I was in love with Rush after FTF but RTF confirmed it.  I love hearing the guy’s side of a story.  The only problem with reading RTF is that, as a reader and fan of Abbi Glines, we know it is the only book from Rush’s POV that we will get and I really need more.  Maybe if enough of us beg her, she will humor us! :).

Seriously RTF was so good!  To watch this womanizing, no strings attached guy be suddenly thrown off kilter by his “stepsister” was awesome.  I loved watching him fight his feelings for Blaire and then give in to them.  I’m sure we all agree Blaire is perfect for him!  Seeing him place Blaire before Nan was great because we all love to hate Nan!

Please Abbi!  Give us more RUSH!

8.  MAYBE SOMEDAY by Colleen Hoover

MAYBE SOMEDAY

Why I read it:

Because it’s Colleen Hoover

What I rated it:

5plus rating4

My thoughts:

You can never go wrong with any Colleen Hoover book.  Maybe Someday is no different.  I instantly fell in love with Ridge.  This book had me all over the place with my emotions…had me laughing and crying.  I’m not usually a fan of the love triangle but I made an exception for this one.  I was begging for them to have their happy ending!  A great read…check it out!

10.  UNTIL YOU by Penelope Douglas

until you

Why I read it:

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED BULLY!!!

What I rated it:

5plus rating4

My thoughts:

BULLY is one of my all time favorites so when I heard there was a story with Jared’s POV, it immediately went on my TBR!  Again, another one that I could not put down.  I laughed, I cried.  I didn’t think that UNTIL YOU could be as good as BULLY but it certainly gave it a run for it’s money!  Jared and Tate are so good together…having 2 stories is always better than one!  Read every FALLING AWAY series book you can get your hands on!!

9.  BITE AND RELEASE by Cory Cyr

bite and release

Why I read it:

I happened upon this book through goodreads.  It was listed as #1 on one of their list so I gave it a shot.

What I rated it:

5star ratingpm
My thoughts:

This story has it all, angst, love, great chemistry and sex and holy hotness in Shea, the lead male character!  Black hair, blue eyes and tattoo sleeves?  YUMMY!  Just gotta love him and his slight obsession with Ryan. 🙂   Yeah – one that has lasted for 13 years (and did I mention she is 13 years older than him)!  There is a lot going on in this one…drama, drama and more drama.  Check out my review (link below).

11.  THE MUSE by Raine Miller

the muse

Why I read it:

I will read anything and everything written by Raine Miller.

What I rated it:

5star ratingpm

My thoughts:

Everyone that knows me, knows that I’m a big fan of the Ethan Blackstone and the BLACKSTONE AFFAIR.  What I love most about Raine’s books is that they are all interlinked.  The Muse is one of Raine Miller historical stories.  Imogene and Graham Everley’s story starts in 1812 but spans the test of time through paintings they have done over the years.  Their love is a rare one of the time because of what has happened to Imogene.  But Graham loves her and it not deterred to make her his.

I love reading Raine’s novels because I know (or want to believe) there will always be a happy ending and since I read so many books, it nice to be able to rely on an author who writes such great stories!  Since I started reading again (since 50 Shades), I have not read many historical novels.  But they were all I read when I was younger so it was refreshing to get back to them.  I have read all of Raine’s books and recommend every one of them!

12.  DARKER WATER by Lauren Stewart

Darker Waters

Why I read it:

I was given this book as an ARC by the author.

What I rated it:

5star ratingpm

My thoughts:

I am so happy I got the opportunity to read this book.  IT WAS HYSTERICAL!!  I don’t believe I have ever laughed out loud so much in a book.  I could be BFFs with Laney!!  She was such a great character to read.  Actually all of the characters were so funny!    I am so used to intense books but this one was a great change of pace.   I woke my husband up a few times laughing while reading this.  I loved the fairy tale theme that was going on throughout the book.  There really are princes out there!

13.  WORTHY OF REDEMPTION by L.D. Davis

WORTHY OF REDEMPTION

Why I read it:

I read this book because I loved Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis.

What I rated it:

5star ratingpm

My thoughts:

After reading Accidentally on Purpose, I did not want to read Worthy of Redemption.  I was so upset going from loving Kyle Sterling to hating Kyle Sterling, I put it on the back burner.  But, after re-reading AoP, I HAD to read Worthy of Redemption…although I did not know how Kyle was going to live up to this title.  Plus I was a little mad at myself because in a way I did not want him to get over Emmy.  If you haven’t read Accidentally on Purpose, please read it first.  Every book in the series is worth the read…READ THEM ALL!

I absolutely love this cover!

14.  LOVING MR. DANIELS by Brittainy C. Cherry

loving mr daniels

Why I read it:

LOVING MR. DANIELS was another top pick of 2014 chosen by our Facebook followers.

What I rated it:

5star ratingpm

My thoughts:

Instant attraction between two people that shouldn’t be together….but can’t stay apart.  It is nice to see how their love, although the attraction is there, is not built on sex. Friends are made, friends and family are lost but love is there in the end.  Gotta love the forbidden love story!!

15.  LIGHT SHADOWS by S.L. Jennings

light shadows

Why I read it:

I LOVE DORIAN SKOTOS!  Light Shadows is the 3rd book of the Dark Light Series

What I rated it:

5star ratingpm.

My thoughts:

This is another series that I got swept away in only to find out that the series finale had not yet been released!!!  I was seriously going through some Dorian, and all his intensity, withdrawal…for months!  But LIGHT SHADOWS was worth the wait and if the series had to end, this was the perfect end.  I can never get enough of Dorian (and Nikolai for that matter), seriously!  If you haven’t read it, give it a try!  You will become a Dorian fan FOREVER!
