This was another GREAT year of reading for me. I’m bummed that I didn’t hit my goal of 300 books but I certainly put in the time to read A LOT. With a beginning list of over 50 favorites, I had a very hard time narrowing it down my top 15. But I’ve done it!!! I’ve also added Honorable Mentions, most that were on my original list. Looking over my favorites, I was pleasantly surprised to find most of them came from recommendations from fellow bloggers and book friends, (thanks Jenn, Missy, Shari and B). I love meeting people that have the same book likes that I do because they know what I like to read and are always there for a good recommendation. So if you have read and liked books on my list, check out the ones you haven’t read. I’m sure you would not be disappointed.
The Carnage Novels by Lesley Jones – This is one unforgettable story that MUST be read. When I tell you that I will never be the same after reading the Carnage novels, which include Carnage 1, Carnage 2 and Marley, I am not exaggerating!!! I won’t sugar coat it at all – you will be devastated in Carnage 1 and although you will NEVER recover, you will be brought back from the brink in Carnage 2. Marley is written from his POV. You will have to relive the Carnage story through his eyes. This book is so good and tissues will be a necessity – for all the books. I’m talking ugly cry with all 3 novels! No other books have affected me as much as the Carnage novels – they are my all time #1 favorite books.
Saviour and Resolution by Lesley Jones – So obviously, I’m a HUGE Lesley Jones fan and I’m embarrassed to admit that up until June of this year, I hadn’t read these books. I‘m not really sure what the heck I was thinking because they are such great reads and so different from the Carnage novels! I laughed and I cried and laughed some more! I love the way Lesley Jones tells a story and can’t enough of the English/Aussie slang going on! There is just something about an accent that does it for me! Talk about the ultimate book boyfriend….you have to meet Gabe!!!
Cityscape Series by Jessica Hawkins (Come Undone, Come Alive and Come Together) – This was a recommendation from B at The Book Bee. She recommended it to me a few times so I decided to go for it. Obviously it was a good thing I did. This is a trilogy that I could not put down. I read them back to back to back. Olivia has played it safe with her husband. She struggles with feelings for another man and is forced to look inward at herself and her marriage. These were so good. Can’t wait to meet Jessica at the Wild and Windy Author Signing in Chicago so I can get these signed for my bookshelf.
Wrong by Jana Aston– I picked this one after seeing a facebook post about it. I read the synopsis and was hooked. A student has a crush on a customer at the coffee shop she works at. Imagine her surprise when she finds out who her doctor is at the local free clinic. It hit all the RIGHT buttons for me!!! It was so funny too! And I love that it’s based out of Philly – my own backyard!
Souls Unfractured by Tillie Cole – This was definitely one of my most anticipated reads of the year and Tillie did not disappoint. One word – FLAME!!! All of you Hades Hangmen fans can relate. Ever since we were introduced to Flame in the series’ first book, I couldn’t wait for his story. It was not what I expected it to be…it was so much more! You will love it!!! Now we wait for Ryder’s story!
Kyland by Mia Sheridan – Mia Sheridian is another one click for me. This one is my #2 favorite read of hers (next to Archer’s Voice). Two poverty stricken kids wanting to escapes their circumstances. Both rivaling for the same college scholarship. Enemies become friends and more. Sacrifices are made. It’s a such a great book. So much detail. Give it a read.
Sincerely Carter by Whitney G – I read this one earlier in the year and knew immediately it would be on my favorite’s list for the year. One of my favorite reads are childhood best friends that fall in love. It’s so good it’s one of my favorite re-reads!
Priest by Sierra Simone – Not sure what I expected from this one but wow. I was drawn in and could not put it down. Seeing Father Bell struggle with his attraction for Poppy and then follow through…oh my heavens! This was one hot read!
Me Before You by JoJo Moyes – I had heard such great things about this book, I just had to read it. I can only say that this is a beautiful love story built not only from the heart but with the mind. It will pull on your heartstrings so tightly you feel you will burst. It is a devastating story but very good. I am so excited that it’s being made into a movie that is expected in 2016 – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2674426/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1. The eBook is a little pricey but worth it!!!
GUS by Kim Holden – I absolutely loved Bright Side so there was no doubt that I would be reading GUS’s story…eventually. It just took me a few days after it’s release to talk myself into reading it because I knew I would have to revisit Bright Side. I had to emotionally prepare myself. And I also wondered how Kim Holden was going to give us something as good as Bright Side but she did. You must read Bright Side before you read GUS. Now I’m patiently waiting to see if there will be a book for Keller and Stella!
Aflame by Penelope Douglas – There was so much controversy over this book, but personally, Penelope Douglas is a one click for me so I was really excited to read it. All of her books in the Falling Away series are 5 stars for me. I loved it because it was really true to life and really a story that needed to be told. Read Bully and Until You before you read this one and be sure to read the rest in the series. You’ll love them all!
Confess by Colleen Hoover – Another unexpected favorite. There are those few authors that I will read all of their books and Colleen Hoover is one of them. Such great characters and a truly beautiful love story. I cried a lot in this one. I love looking back at her stories and see how the beginning of her stories come full circle. This my second favorite book of Colleen Hoover’s with Hopeless being #1 (but this is very close).
For the Love of Raindrops by Beth Michele – I loved this book. I was already a fan of Beth Michele but this one is now my favorite of hers. It was a beautiful story of childhood loves that never falters. There is heartbreak but it is also heart warming. Give it a chance, you will not be disappointed.
The Air He Breathes by Brittainy Cherry – How can someone come back from the most devastating of situations? Liz and Tristan have both experienced devastating loss but they can still a have second chance at love. They just have to figure out how. Brittainy’s writing is just so good! I was so happy to jump on the bandwagon for this one. It’s truly a great read and you will fall in love with Tristan Cole!
On the Island Tracey Garvis-Graves – This is a student/teacher story only this time the teacher is a woman. TJ’s is 16 years and due to an illness he is in need of a tutor. Anna accepts the job – she is 31. They are to spend the summer (being tutored) at his family’s summer home in the Maldives. It’s when their plane crashes on the way that we see how, over time, their true relationship forms. It’s what comes later that makes the books even better! Another great read!
The Kane Trilogy (4 books) by Stylo Fantome (ALL on Kindle Unlimited)
