Mercy by Debra Anastasia ~ Amy’s Review

Debra has a unique and a little bit darker element to her writing that calls to me.  After reading The Revenger I’ve been keeping a close eye on what she’s releasing in the hopes of getting something just as good.

He taught me to kill. Murder is in my blood now. It runs through my veins and though I hide the monster I see in the mirror with ink, it doesn’t keep him from coming out.

My street name is Mercy, but I never show any. Except for her. I watch Becca, though she doesn’t know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target.

My father holds a grudge and knife with the same proficiency, and Becca is the focus of his hatred. And I’m the only monster who can save her.

This isn’t a conventional love story which I think is what made me love this book more.  These characters are weird and flawed.  They have issues beyond what we would normally see and they function on a totally different level but, their love was strong than most.  Their connection was deep, personal, and beautiful.  Between all the darkness in this book were rays of beauty that shined so brightly they blinded you.

The personality of each of the characters in this book, from the most important to the least, were all big, loud, and in your face.  You knew who these people were and you cared for them, you connected with them.  It didn’t matter what was in their past, or who they were now you wanted to see them succeed, you wanted them to get their happy ending.

Debra is an amazing writer that I believe everyone should read.  She puts a twist on the everyday romance and turns it into an adventure that you never want to end.
