I enjoyed reading previous books by this author.

4 stars

As the oldest son of a Chicago crime lord, Robert Delgado always knew how dangerous life could be. With his mother dead and his father in prison, he’s taking charge of his family’s safety—putting himself and his siblings in witness protection to hide out in a backwater Florida town.
Fourth grade teacher Adri Wilson is worried about the new boy in her class. Sherm is quiet and evasive, especially when he’s around his even cagier older brother. Adri can’t help her attraction to Rob, or the urge to help them both in whatever way she can.
But the Delgados have enemies on two sides of the mob—their father’s former crew and the rival family he helped take down. It’s only a matter of time before someone finds them. And if Rob isn’t careful, Adri could end up in the crossfire…

It’s no secret that I love books that have a mixture of mature, smart characters, drama, suspense and kids. This book had all of those pieces. The Delgados are on the run from Chicago, hiding out in a sleepy little town. Adri is a local teacher in the sleepy island town, and the youngest Delgado, Sherm, is new to her class.

The interactions between Adri and Sherm’s oldest brother, Rob, are full of sizzling chemistry. and the fact that they can’t act on that sizzle will keep you hooked on the storyline. The couple have a couple close calls, but try to maintain the distance they should have between them.

Rob and his family had to flee Chicago after their Dad is sent to prison. Rob feels it is his duty as the new family patriarch to right the wrongs so their family can return to Chicago. He is on a mission of vengeance.

The internal battle Rob faces trying to balance keeping his family safe and exacting revenge had me wanting to reach through my Kindle to knock some sense into him. I think the part that got me the most was the relationship between Sherm and Rob. The youngest Delgado is hurting and hiding, and Rob feels it is his fault. The little bugger just stole my heart!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I really look forward to reading the next book in this series!
