WHY I READ IT
I loved the first book in the series.
WHAT I RATED IT
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
A second chance at first love.
Eight years ago, Garrett Finnegan’s world shattered the day Mia vanished from his life. He’s been struggling to pick up the pieces ever since. Haunted by memories and ghosts of the past, he chooses a solitary existence rather than risk his heart again.
Mia Emerson has made one wrong decision after another but none worse than walking away from the boy who stole her heart so long ago. When her new life is turned upside down, she finds herself returning to her roots and the hometown she left behind. Maybe now she can find a way to heal from the devastating mistakes of her past.
When a chance encounter brings these former lovers together, passion reignites in a way neither is prepared for. Can Garrett move beyond his anger and find a way to forgive? Will Mia’s insecurities and fears cause her to once again flee the life she’s destined to live?
Garrett and Mia will soon discover that they must journey into the past to find their way home.
J.L. Berg does it again! The third book in The Ready Series is just as fantastic as the first two. These books are standalones and do not have to be read in order, BUT to get the full, fabulous experience, you should. These characters are family and appear in each other’s books.
Ready For You is the story of Garrett and Mia, high school sweethearts who we meet at their graduation, ready to take on the world. Before the night is over, both of them will be left broken hearted and alone.
Flash forward eight years and Mia is moving back to Richmond, VA. She has spent the last eight years loving and missing Garrett, but not feeling as if she deserves him. Garrett has spent his eight years in agony. Missing Mia and throwing himself into his work, work he doesn’t even enjoy, all so he can try and avoid thinking about her and what they lost. Both of them broken and lost, neither willing to admit it.
Their paths finally cross and it’s everything you thought it would be… awkward, stuff and uncomfortable. Eventually, Mia and Garrett start spending more time together and work on the betrayals and misunderstandings from their past. This is not an easy feat. Garrett is ANGRY and he doesn’t hesitate to let his temper fly when around Mia. He has a lot of questions, and Mia isn’t exactly forthcoming with the answers. Their fights were ugly, but therapeutic. One thing I loved about Ready For You is that Garrett and Mia didn’t run into each other’s arms, declaring their love for each other and move along. This was not easy. It was rough, painful, and hard work. Mia’s closet is not without its skeletons and while Garrett thought he knew everything, in reality, he knows nothing.
J.L. Berg’s writing style drives you into the meat of the story. The alternate POV allows you to get inside Mia and Garrett’s heads and experience this ride along with them. I can’t tell you how many times my stomach would drop and my heart ache from one of their fights, misunderstandings, or just plain stubbornness. My heart shattered in pieces when Mia finally told Garrett the truth about what caused her to run away from him all those years ago. The author warned me to have tissues handy when reading my advanced copy and she wasn’t kidding. Ready For You is a moving, beautiful story about getting a second chance with your first love.
