WHY I READ IT
I’ve been waiting for this book for YEARS!!! I never thought it would actually happen.
WHAT I RATED IT
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
A prequel to Kristen’s Rock Chick series, Rock Chick Reawakening shares the tale of the devastating event that nearly broke Daisy, an event that set Marcus Sloane—one of Denver’s most respected businessmen and one of the Denver underground’s most feared crime bosses—into finally making his move to win the heart of the woman who stole his.
In all the years I’ve been reading Ashley’s books, I never once doubted a story line, or a direction she planned to take with a favorite character. Marcus and Daisy’s story is one I have clamored for since we first meet Daisy in Rock Chick Rescue. Why would the beloved Daisy be with a crime lord such as Marcus Sloan? Daisy was pure goodness, and Marcus, well, Marcus wasn’t. There had to be a story there. We just didn’t know if it would ever be told. When Ashley she announced she was writing a novella, my first thought was, “Is that even possible?” This is an author that regularly gives us 600 + books and leaves us wanting more. How in world was she going to tell the complete story of two people we have been waiting years to hear from, and do it in less than 40,000 words? Well, she did. And she did it brilliantly.
“I’m not yours.”
“Honey, please start paying attention.”
Rock Chick Reawakening, for those brand new to the Rock Chick series is the story of how Daisy and Marcus came to be, and takes place before the start of Rock Chick. Almost anything I tell you about this book would be a spoiler, and I don’t want to do that to you. Here is what I can tell you, and it’s only two words. Marcus Sloan.
Marcus is a pure background player in the RC series. We know he’s Daisy’s husband, we know that he has a professional relationship with Lee (you will learn how that came about), but mostly, we know he has nefarious dealings with citizens who don’t necessarily follow the law. Beyond that, our Marcus Sloan knowledge is limited. That’s about to change. Ashley gives us the full background of both Marcus and Daisy, and for both of them it is heartbreaking. Utterly heartbreaking. We learn what brings Daisy to Denver, and where she draws the strength to give to her Rock Chicks. When Marcus decides Daisy is going to be his, he stops at nothing to convince her he can heal the hurt. He was all alpha like our favorite KA men, but his approach was fresh and endearing. It was slow and methodical. He waited until the time was right, but he never, not once, left her to fend for herself.
Marcus and Daisy are a real life fairy tale, complete with a castle, and the knight to go with it. This is a true love letter to the fans of the series, and something we have all been waiting for. Ashley does not disappoint. I feel like we can finally say goodbye to our Rock Chicks, knowing all of them, are finally living the lives they deserve.
