What it’s about
The Lawless siblings are bound by vengeance. Riley, Drew, Brandon, and Mia believe the CEO of StratCast orchestrated their parents’ murder twenty years ago to steal their father’s software program. And there’s only one way Riley can find some solid evidence…
Heir to the StratCast legacy, Ellie Stratton hires a new attorney to handle a delicate business matter—and she’s shocked by her attraction to him. Over the course of a few weeks, Riley becomes her lover, her friend, her everything. But when her life is threatened, Ellie discovers that Riley is more obsessed with settling an old score than in the love she thought they were building. And Riley must choose between a revenge he’s prepared for all his life and the woman he’s sure he can’t live without…
Ahh, the good old fashioned struggle of life-long vengeance against a wrong, or the woman you love? Seriously, I loved this book and the way Lexi portrayed the characters and each of their own struggles throughout this book. This is one series I will be keeping a close eye out for future installments!
One of my favorite pieces of a good romantic suspense novel is the talent and ability of the author to keep me guessing and not give away all their secrets with what they thought are hidden meanings behind words; I almost always pick up on them and can vaguely guess the outcome, even in chapter 1. Lexi Blake continues to surprise me and keep me guessing until the very end. Ruthless was no exception to this, and I am hooked!
I loved how Lexi makes such complex characters and finds a way to make them all loveable in their own way. From the outside, Ellie looks like the heiress with everything on a silver platter. You don’t see the internal struggles and quiet family secrets she has to keep hidden. Riley starts out with a one track mind. His entire life’s work is going to be defined in one series of actions against a woman he doesn’t know. Everything is fine and dandy until he actually meet Ellie, and here is where the struggles begin.
The rest of the Lawless siblings have no insignificant role in the series, and I am glad we get to see some of their inner struggles, even if just a glimpse, come to light.
The chemistry between Riley and Ellie felt like a real, pulsing, tangible thing, and I swear my heart was full to bursting, feeling the love and connection between the characters. This does not mean either one is going to submit to the chemistry and it’s going to be all sunshine and rainbows, but the path their relationship took felt real.
Overall, I really loved this book, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Another home run for Lexi Blake!
