JACQUE’S REVIEW

“Are you…my knight in shining armor?”

That is how Darcie Claiborne has always seen Reggie Evans.  After all, he had saved her.  And his blue eyes are the first thing she sees when he rescues her.

“After months of darkness, my eyes focus on the only color in the room, aqua blue.  Suddenly, I am lost in an ocean blue pool.”

Darcie had been abused for ten years at the hands of her stepfather.  The abuse was brutal; whips, belts, and cigars extinguished on her body.  At 14 years old, Darcie decides to fight for her life.  Reggie finds her and brings her back to live with him and his three brothers.

Fast forward three years and he is her still salvation.  Whenever she is brought back to that dark time, it’s Reggie who calms her.

“I lean my head against his chest, absorbing the scent of his safety.”

Darcie is now 17 and a senior in high school and with high school comes drama!  She, of course, has a nemesis that keeps her in trouble but she also forms her first real friendship with “Presley Quinn, a Sulfur Heights newbie”.  Finally another girl to talk to!

Her feelings toward Reggie have changed…and so have his.  But he feels that he cannot act on his feelings.  This is when things get intense.  Feeling are hurt, realizations are made, secrets revealed, blackmail …so much drama.

What will happen with Darcie and Reggie?  You will have to read it to find out.

This story definitely takes you for a ride.  I thought it would go one way and then a new twist would be added.  I found myself wrapped up in the feelings Darcie and Reggie had for each and wondering if things would work out.

You will really like Reggie.   He takes responsibility for his family, giving up his own dreams and doing what he needs to do to make sure that Darcie is not taken from them.  He wants to do the right thing by them.  But what does that mean for Darcie?  Sometimes when I read a book, I can immediately picture the character.  I see Charlie Hunnam when I think of Reggie.  Let me know if you agree!

Darcie has been put through the ringer for sure and we wonder how she has survived such abuse.  She tries to be tough on the outside and but she is still so insecure on the inside.
