Why I read it
I love all the Take it Off series!
What I rated it
What it’s about
The meter is running…
One night as Rose Crawford steps out of a bar, she gives no second thought to lifting her hand to signal for a cab. After all, it’s the responsible thing to do.
A common occurrence.
Far safer than walking several blocks, alone, in the dark.
A familiar-looking yellow taxi with black, faux-leather seats, running meter on the dash, and a smiling driver pulls up to the curb.
Rose slides in. Gives the driver her address…
But she never reaches her destination.
Instead, she finds herself captive, at the will of a man who isn’t a driver, but a bona fide psychopath.
Trapped in a taxi she can’t escape, Rose begins to panic. As the miles between her and safety grow, hope dwindles. It isn’t until someone else joins her in captivity that her spark of hope is rekindled.
Derek is strong, capable, and surely together they can fight their way to freedom.
Then Rose finds out exactly why she’s been driven into hell. Derek may be an unwilling captive, but he isn’t going to help her.
In fact, he’s there to do the exact opposite.
I have been waiting for this book forever! From the first paragraph, Cambria hooks you with her penchant for keeping you in suspense while adding her little flairs of humor to make you laugh and break up the seriousness of the content.
I was guessing from page one on what the Taxi man wants from Rose. I had a million and one ideas, but I didn’t know if any of them were correct. Derek was later thrown into the mix, and I was even more curious as to what Taxi man wanted from them.
I am a romantic suspense feign, and am very picky about what books I pick up in this genre due to my complete lack of faith in most authors to deliver a believable and (what I deem to be) accurate description of most action-filled events in romance books. Cambria is one of the very few authors who gets it right every single time. Taxi has jumped up to the top of my favorites from this series!
Each page had me gasping, trying to read faster so I can find out what happens next! The story has a few twists and turns I never saw coming, but were gut wrenching and sad! I have never felt as conflicted as I did when reading Taxi. One minute, I was hoping the story took a turn one direction, but then I found myself happy the story went in the other direction.
I loved the relationship between Derek and Rose. You can see the inner turmoil that Derek faces when he is given a decision to make. I felt myself holding my breath, hoping he makes the right decision.
There were a couple other noteworthy characters in Taxi. Rocco absolutely broke my heart, and I just felt for him! I wanted to reach right into my Kindle and wrap my arms around him and give him a big hug!
I also love when an author touches on a social issue that hasn’t been overly addressed in the romance community. I love finding fresh new ideas, and Cambria has done that with Taxi. She touches on a very near and dear to me issue, but to find out what that is, you need to read the book. I will not post a spoiler here!
Overall, this book is easily one of my top reads of 2016, and I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
