WHY I READ IT
I am a fan of romantic suspense, and the blurb was intriguing.
WHAT I RATED IT
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
The peaceful town of Harmony Falls, Texas, has been rocked to its core by an unspeakable crime.
One that harbors revenge and injustice.
I don’t even know where to start with this book! I’m literally speechless right now! There is a powerful message within the pages of Unlawful Justice, but I feel I would be doing you a disservice if I tell you the message without strongly urging you to read this story! It is certainly one that every person should experience themselves!
Olivia is the quiet bookworm from high school that is now a teacher in an underprivileged area of town. Grayson is the son of the late beloved Sheriff, who’s followed in his father’s footsteps. Grayson is incredibly sweet and patient with Liv, while still remaining an in-control alpha male. Liv has suffered tragedy, but that does not phase Grayson in his pursuit of her. He is fiercely protective and loyal. He isn’t afraid to show his emotions, and always puts himself between his loved ones and danger. Liv is incredibly strong, especially considering all that she has been put through. She does not let tragedy define her, she turns it around to use it to make the changes she wants to see in her community. She becomes a voice for change for her neighbors. One of my favorite female characters of 2015!
A much as I loved the love story of Liv and Grayson, I felt there was a stronger message within the pages. One that many authors try to avoid, for what I assume is a fear of sparking controversy. And that issue is the issue of prejudice and racism in present day America. These two geniuses (KC and K) have gone there. They brought up the tough subjects that are splashed all over the media in real life. There are some events going on in my home town as we speak that make it feel like this book was written here and is more like a news article than a book. These are tough subjects to discuss, and I absolutely love that the authors went there!
There were a couple characters within the book that the authors purposely either didn’t describe or only vaguely described, leaving you without knowing their hair color, eye color and skin color. I picked up on this, and felt this was intentional, trying to make you see that it really doesn’t matter. Love is love, people are people, and we all need to find a way to live together in peace and harmony. This book had one of the strongest messages I have read this year! I absolutely loved it!
