Unravel Me by Lynn Montagano — Becky’s Review

Alastair Holden is still Scottish and I’m reviewing the series for a blog  tour.

Perfect for fans of EL James and Sylvia Day!
Lia’s meant to be on cloud nine: ever since she and Alastair finally confessed their love for one another, their relationship has never been so good.
Her British-born Adonis is all intent on sweeping her off her feet, showering her with gifts and affection more than worthy of the girlfriend of an international, millionaire businessman!
But their past seems to be intent on dragging the both of them down, and the hushed gossip of a dark secret begins to cause havoc to Lia’s life…
With an ocean separating her from her love, Lia can’t help but wonder if she can ever feel secure with a man who still plays everything so close to his chest, including her.

Unravel Me, the second book in Lynn Montagano’s Breathless series, is full of tension right from the very beginning. Someone is out to destroy Lia and Alastair’s relationship, which brings out the protective alpha in Alastair and makes Lia fight harder to protect her relationship. This time around, Alastair’s secrets threaten to destroy his relationship with Lia unless he reveals who he truly is and learns to finally accept Lia’s unconditional love.

The second book still has those echoes of similar stories but this time, the writing is less confusing. Lynn Montagano does a great job of explaining Alastair and Lia’s motives and emotions. As the reader, I totally get where Alastair is coming from and I fully understand why Alastair so easily freezes up. I loved the plot of this book because Lia and Alastair are constantly in turmoil, forcing Alastair to reveal more of himself to Lia. The more he reveals to Lia, the more Lia is resolved to love him, even when he reveals some of his darkest and ugliest secrets.

After reading the first two books in this series, I cannot wait to dive into book #3! Alastair and Lia may be one of my favorite book couples and I’m still swooning over Alastair, even more so now! Montagano makes sure that with all of the tension she’s created between Alastair and Lia, she gives her readers what they want – lighthearted back-and-forth banter, a little comic relief and some truly hot and steamy scenes. While there a similarities between this series and others that I’ve read, Montagano does a few things that I really like. First, she doesn’t pack her book with sex, sex and more sex. There’s plenty of steam but there’s also lots of implied steam, which I like because it lets the reader see the relationship truly develop. And lastly, while Montagano creates a lot of tension and turmoil, the story resolves itself at the end. There’s no cliffhanger. However, Montagano doesn’t leave everything totally resolved. I still have questions, I still want to know what’s going to happen between Alastair and Lia, and that’s what makes me anticipate the third book.

If you haven’t read Catch my Breath or Unravel Me, what are you waiting for? You need to read these books!! I can’t believe I waited so long to read them myself! So excited for the next installment in this series, Effortless.
