WHY I READ IT
The Alabama Summer Series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Daniels writes fun characters that I enjoy reading.
WHAT I RATED IT
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
For the past nine years, I’ve kept my heart as far away from my dick as possible.
Those two can’t be anywhere near each other. They don’t play nice, and one of them undoubtedly winds up getting hurt.
Not my dick. My dick is good.
The women I take home know exactly what they’re getting from me—sex. Nothing more. At least, that’s what’s supposed to happen. The sweet brunette from Kentucky I set my sights on tonight shouldn’t have been any different. I had her right where I wanted her. Where I needed her. But when my past comes walking into McGill’s pub, the woman in my arms decides to take things to a whole new level, putting me into a situation I never saw coming.
My heart is about to get fucked. My dick can sit this one out.
Let’s be totally honest. Reed is a manwhore. After being burned years ago when the thought he was in love, he has vowed to make it only about sex. He’s doing a bang up job of it, because in nine years, Reed hasn’t had a single relationship, but he has had relations…. an astounding number of them. While Reed may be doing his best to bed half of Alabama, he is still an incredible guy. He cares deeply for his friends and is completely vested in their lives. He believes in the love his friends share, but just doesn’t need or want that for himself.
Beth is an outstanding character. Her life before coming to Alabama has been an absolute mess, but in no way is she beaten down or depressed. She is getting a chance to start over with a family who loved and wants her, something she hasn’t had in years. When Beth meets Reed in her Aunt and Uncles’ bar, the attraction is instant, and what might have been a one night stand is interrupted, leading Reed and Beth down a road they never thought they’d travel.
Beth is seriously funny. Both her inner rants and interactions with the other characters were fantastic. I loved how real and honest she was about everything. Beth was a completely relatable character, something you don’t find in novels very often anymore. Reed is exactly what you would expect from the glimpses of him we were treated too in the first two books; an aloof, but stand up guy and great friend who gets completely knocked on his ass by a girl he never saw coming. I loved watching Reed try to navigate this new world. He doesn’t always get it right, but damn if he doesn’t try. Reed is fantastic in the bedroom. His dirty talk if off the charts, but as with the rest of the book, it feels real coming from him. This is Reed; Hot, Sexy and Dirty. I freaking LOVED him! Beth and Reed have instant chemistry going for them and they banter back and forth with an ease of long time friends.
This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The writing is exceptional. Each book, When I Fall included, is well thought out and planned. Everything happens for a reason important to the storyline. There is no “drama for the sake of drama.” Each one of these characters feel like your best friend. You are not sitting on the sidelines, watching the scenes play out. You are a part of them. The repartee between the characters is authentic, nothing is forced. You will not be disappointed with Reed and Beth.
