When We Met by AL Jackson, Molly McAdams, Tiffany King and Christina Lee

WHEN WE MET is a series of short stories revolving around four college roommates. Each story tells of the beginning of their relationships.

In BEHIND HER EYES by AL Jackson we meet Misha, who has been burned in the ultimate way by her boyfriend, whom she trusted. Thinking of dropping out, she returns to school at the last minute, desperate to keep her head down and just get through. Unfortunately (or fortunately), Darryn, Misha ridiculously hot new neighbor makes it hard to do that. Darryn takes one look at Misha and knows who she is, but that doesn’t stop the feelings that are simmering at the surface.  All Darryn wants to do is protect her and make sure that no one can ever hurt her again. Misha struggles with trusting a man again. Can Darryn break through Misha’s walls??

“I just want to mean something to you.”

In SAVING ME by Molly McAdams, Indy’s life is just completely falling apart. She returns to school early to find her boyfriend having sex with someone else… his fiancé!! Indy medicates the only way she knows how, getting drunk every Saturday night and sleeping around. Little does she know, she has her very own safe place in her neighbor, Kier. Indy doesn’t recall Kier taking care of her each night, but he doesn’t stop doing it. Kier was incredibly sweet to the deeply troubled Indy. He was willing to wait for her to work through her struggles. I loved him!! Saving Me was my favorite of the four.

“You know my name. You just don’t want to remember it now.”

In FOULING OUT by Tiffany King, Courtney and Dalton were friends once, before he became a big hot-shot basketball star. When Dalton comes into the bar Courtney is working at, she gives him the brush off. He walked away from her all those years ago, why should she bother with him now? Dalton realizes what he has been missing… Courtney. Basketball and all the fame that comes with it isn’t worth anything if he doesn’t have someone to share it with. I loved how hard Dalton worked to win Courtney back. He never gave up on getting back into her good graces. Determination is definitely sexy.

“Somewhere along the way, without realizing it, I’d stopped fighting my attraction to him.”

In BENEATH YOUR LAYERS by Christina Lee, Chloe and Blake both make incorrect assumptions about each other. Blake thinks Chloe is a prissy, stuck-up fashionista and Chloe thinks Blake is a womanizing drop-out who won’t amount to anything. After being paired together on a project Chloe needs to graduate, the start stripping each other’s layers by playing truth or dare. I really liked how Blake and Chloe took the time to get to know the real person behind their assumptions.

“I…dare…you… to close your eyes.” He paused and waited for me to slide them shut.  Then I felt his warm air against my lips. “And just feel.”
